Emergency Exit

After I got dressed I realized I look like a flight attendant today.  I got to work and had 2 people say right off the bat " you look nice today" then I waved my arms along my sides and indicated the emergency exits were to the side and they laughed and said " yeah, you do look kindof like a flight attendant".
I had a HUGE weekend of exercise. Does that sentence make sense? Does it evoke the sense that I did alot of activity this weekend?  Friday I cycled 100km (fast pace). Saturday we ran 5 hours at East Sooke Park (read: HILLY TRAILS), Sunday we ran 4.5 hours around Mt. Work, Francis King Park, and a bunch of other hilly challenging loop dee doos.  Sunday I ran 2.5 hours around Elk Lake.  Whoa you say. Thats alot of exercise!  It WAS.  I'm currently training for a 100km trail run that will take place in a really remote and beautiful alpine area in the US.  Can't wait and have to keep training hard to ensure I am strong and ready to go.

So today, legs off.  No exercise for me other than walking up and down the isles of the airplane :)
Hope you had a great day.

Do I look like a Tablecloth?

Happy Tuesday!  This whole outfit was put together solely so I could wear my new coat. I thought a pink scarf would look good with it and so I ended up putting on this dress. The outfit just created itself really. But all in the name of wearing THE COAT.

I must admit, even though I totally trust and admire Sheila's fashion sense and her advise when we went shopping together there was a moment I hesitated and almost put this coat back on the rack.  Then I thought I would regret it if I did so I bought it.  I was still not sure. Mainly because it didn't really feel like me. I brought it home, washed it and while it was hanging out on the clothesline the hubs says "is that a new coat?" ... "it's kinda cool".
Well. Thats rare. He usually doesn't comment on my clothes all that much.

So I get to work this morning and I'm there about 10 minutes and someone from our office says to me as I'm going up the stairs " Wow, I love that jacket".  Okay so I guess I don't look like a tablecloth I'm thinking to myself.  And I am feeling somewhat self conscious that the shoulders are too wide.
NO ONE HAS ASKED ME ABOUT THE PLAYOFFS.

Then I go to a lunch meeting for work and as we are all leaving afterwards one of my colleagues says " Wow, I love that stylish coat".  I'm like, oh, I don't look like a tablecloth?  And she just rolls her eyes and says "You crack me up".

Okay. Its official. This is a cool coat. And Sheila did tell me so.  SHE DID WARN ME.  She said " Just wait til you get compliments all over the place on this".  I'm booking my next shopping date. IMMEDIATELY :)

Birds of a Feather

See my fun new eye chart wall hanging? Its going to be hung in the bathroom. So you know. You can test your eyes while your're sitting there.. hah hah

Plain outfit today but I was in a hurry and had to ride my bike. Went out to get the bike and the stoopid tire was flat. So much for getting to work on time today :(

Hope you had a super day.

Colorful Black

One of my favorite tops. And of course, boots, another fav.  An easy outfit for riding a bike and keeping comfy.  Nuff said. Hope you all had a super day!

Frumpalot

I got all excited when I found this dress because its a really expensive Dutch brand and well made. The price was a steal!  I tried it on and wasn't sure about it. I came out and asked the lady working in the store what she thought and she said "OMG, girl, that dress was MADE for you. It fits you perfectly."  So I went back in, got changed back into my clothes and then proceeded to purchase the dress.  I still wasn't completely convinced.

I come home from work today after wearing it (and no comments like WOW, I like your dress so thats always a sign) and ask the hubby what he thinks... "the colors abit dull.... and it kind of looks like a sack...."  Nuff said.  That was what I had originally thought to myself in the changeroom.

I'd say what doesn't work is that its not a good length for me, the color is okay and the cut is not completely flattering (I also better suit more structured pieces).

I'm curious about your HONEST opinion on this and maybe even ideas for how to better style it.

Its all for the learning right? :)

Stretchy Pants

Happy Thursday. I dressed for comfort today. I had a planning day which meant in my office all day thinking and planning.  These boots remind me of Santa boots too.  I prefer a wee bit of a heel or lift to my shoe/boot however these were really comfy.  One of my favorite scarves too because I love birds.

I don't think I shared with you that I'm also on Day 16 of the Whole30 eating plan. I pretty much eat this healthy most of the time but following this diligently has been really good.  I'm going down the other side now (more than half way through is what I mean) and my energy has only been going up more and more. Today I felt like a superhero like I was pretty much running up the stairs everytime I had to use them. CRAZY. And fun :)

How was your day? Have you ever done Whole30?

Sweater Time

Just got back from a long weekend (it was Canadian Thanksgiving) and did another 50km trail race which was CRAZY. We experienced the tail end of the hurricane which meant running in 50 mile an hour wind and unbelievable downpour.  The trip was fun overall and now back to work and all the organizational change we're going through.  Its all good stuff but alot of work that requires me to be on my A game and really focused.

Today is my first day of wearing booties and socks. YES socks.  If I could, I would wear shorts and short skirts all year round. I love having bare legs and no socks/tights. I guess I can't complain though because it is quite reasonable here on the west coast in terms of temperature.  Not much to report on other than I'm also doing Whole30 right now.  I pretty much each really really healthy already but thought I would try this 30 day challenge. Today is day 7 and smooth sailing.  Will keep you posted and report on results soon!!

Hope you all had a great day too.

Well HELLO!

Well HELLO!!! It's been a long time since I've posted. And where has the summer gone? HOLY Smokes!!  I was so busy with all my trail races this summer I can't believe its mid September already.  I've clocked hundreds and hundreds of kilometer in the mountains lately and my last 50km race went up 8000ft and was in the snow. So crazy and fun. I ended up winning my age category and placing 5th overall so that was kindof neat!

Anyway, getting ready to go off to a week long convention for work. I'm just putting together all my outfits now.  I wish I could pull of blazers. They give a nice professional look to just about anything. Problem is I haven't yet found the perfect one.  Any tips on other items that would make an outfit abit more professional but still slightly casual (I'm not one for sweaters either though :)

How are you all???

Gimme some color

I threw this together quickly this morning and think it turned out okay. I'm not training at the same level as last year and so am struggling with how I feel about my body lately.  My clothes fit differently and I often have an internal dialogue going on with myself about how I look.  One of the good things about taking photos and seeing myself objectively is that I can see what looks flattering or not (or at least I think I can).  I also helps me to turn down the volume on the conversation that's running most of the time about my weight/size, etc.

I expect almost everyone woman has body issues, its so common in our society and I know its all skewed.   Just sharing a bit of my personal musings with you today.

What do you love about your body?

No Meeting Day

I didn't have to leave the office today, was a planning day so I dressed for comfort and almost felt like I was wearing pj's or something.  Most of the girls in the office dress like this all the time as well but when I go out to meetings I definitely have to step it up a notch or 3.  Just got home from my run coaching and we did drills for the whole hour. My.LEGS.are.tired!!

Hope you had a great day.  Are you a runner or have you ever run for exercise?  Do you like it?

Winter be Gone

The trees are all blooming here and the flowers are exploding with color.  Its almost but not quite time to pull out the spring clothes.  I will wear boots as late into spring/summer as possible though since its one of my favorite fashion items.

Do you have a fashion favorite that you wear all the time or would wear all the time if you could?

The lady with the brown sweater

Working from home today. I was wearing my FAT PANTS (you know, the stretchy pants with cat fur on them and coffee stains.. hah hah).  And then I had to go out so I quickly slipped on my comfy jeans and sweater.  This sweater reminds me of one my mom used to wear when we were young except hers had 2 big stripes on the bottom.  It's the comfy sweater I wear when I want to just blend in and be warm.

AND check out my burgundy cowl.  I made this myself.  My second knit job. Well, I should say its the second cowl I have made. The other thing I learned how to knit is those cotton dishrags.   Yes, I am just so crafty. Step back Martha Stewart.  I'm here :)

What are you crafty at making?

Little Birds

I finally figured out how to wear this scarf in a way that I like so now I can wear it. I like the little birds on it and that its red. Red is one of my fav colors. Its a big one, meaning, long and I don't like tying it and then having long ends hanging down. I tied the corners of the ends together in really small knots to make this like an infinity scarf and I like the way it hangs a lot better.  Friday at work is jeans day. Sometimes I wear jeans and sometimes I don't. I thought it would be a chance to pull out my little booties and wear them as well so this is what I came up with.

As for this weekend I'm painting the living room and even just doing the first coat on the walls the cats have walked through the paint and made paint paw prints ALL over the living room. When I tried to grab them to wash the paint off so they wouldn't try to lick it off and get sick, they ran faster and made even more (and even some skid marks) prints everywhere.

Note to self.  Lock up cats before painting :(  hah hah its all good fun though.  Chat later!

Black and Blue

Isn't that just a fashion faux pas! The last post I did I was wearing the SAME PANTS. URGH. Well, the point is, its getting abit cold and time for covered legs.  I will break out the boots soon.  Am trying to be patient.  I basically try to wear bare legs as long as possible and then go from that to boots.  As you know, I have a boot fetish.  I'm also playing with new locations in the house to take my photos as it will soon be getting rainy outside.

If you take your photos inside, what room do you take most of your outfit photos in?

Coral TShirt

I ate  2 breakfasts this morning. Why you ask?  I had a piece of sprouted grain toast with almond butter at 5am then swam 8.5 km at the pool. Came home. Made steelcut oats and ate them with the canned peaches we made last summer and some almonds. Then made a killer decaf americano (I drink these black).  Then off to work I went. I had a bunch of coffee meetings and since Friday is casual day I wore my jeans and tshirt with this cute new scarf.  I actually found this scarf at London Drugs of all places and it was on sale so I scooped it up in attempt to get a little more girly stuff in my wardrobe.

I don't know if you noticed though (I hadn't) that I am still wearing my sport watch.  It wasn't until the end of the day when I met with my coach that he pointed it out and laughed and said " you know your'e an athlete when you wear your sport watch all day". hah ha.  I have a GPS in this watch however so its very cool to train with- nice to track my mileage and download the stats at the end of the work outs- it shows you a map of elevation and everything.

Anyway, I love this coral color and will look for more of it!!  Happy Weekend. I am off to ride 200 km on Saturday as part of my training. Fingers crossed for blue skies :)

Frumpalooo

Okay I will not complain. I will not complain.  I got home and changed into my comfy stretchy pants and hoody right away. I am NOT going to my scheduled coached run workout. I just want to be home cuddled up with some heat and cats. That kind of day.  That kind of outfit. Frumpaloo.

Blue Steel

Well hello there!! It just so happens I am wearing the scarf I showed you in my last post quite some time ago. This is the first time I wore it to work and everyone happened to comment on it before they even knew I made it. That's cool!!  I love these blue colors- not a color I am used to wearing.  I always stayed away from blue for some reason.

The weather here has been really rainy and not great for outdoor photos. I have been playing around with using my flash indoors and as you can tell-- I am not yet very good at it.  Anyway, that will not deter me!!

PS. what you do think of my pink manicure??  Its been over 2 weeks and its still lasted.. I have not chipped my nails.. usually I only last about 2 hours!! woo hooo

Hope all is well with you lovely fashionistas!!
