Daily Outfit: Airport Travel

Hi Ladies!! Reporting LIVE, I mean REAL TIME from the Toronto Airport!  I feel like a fashion reporter or something :)  I asked a lady to snap this pic of me by the Toronto mural backdrop and she goes and cuts my feet off!  I guess I should have waited and asked a fashionable-looking lady to snap it... surely SHE would know to take a full shot!! LOL anyway, can you believe my coworker booked my flight for me for 6am?  This means I had to get up at 4am this morning.  My eyes look like 2 little pee holes in the snow (for those of you in the US who never get snow.. well, private-type joke I guess :)

AND I went and got myself an airport manicure.  I don't have long elegant fingers as you can tell, more like good ol sausage fingers.  But anyway, I wanted blue but they didn't have any and I am wishing I got a darker color because I don't think this color is good for my skin tone.  The thing that is cool though (even though its a shoddy manicure and paint job) is that I NEVER paint my nails so this is a new thing!!  Thought you might like to know that you are all influencing me ( in good and bad ways- (bad--I  am spending more $$ now because of you all!)).

Next report to come from Quebec.  And oh boy I can't wait to check out the spots suggested by MUA and Twenty York Street!!  So exciting!!  And I have 1.5 hours to catch up on your blogs... here I come!!

Daily Outfit: The color of Rita

Today couldn't have worked out more perfectly.  I was in a rush this morning and asked Fiance if he would take my picture since he has the day off today. He said.. well, I think its too dark out.  "Okay, okay, forget it then.. I will do it myself at lunch time".  Did you think I was going to say " Oh, thats okay honey bunny, sweetie pie..."  NOT.  No, not when it comes to fashion and my blog.  Remember, this is the same guy who said my Saturday night outfit looked like a haloween costume (reference to my pink tights!!).  Anyway... I had to pick up some materials for a work session we are leading and because I have the camera and tripod in the car.. well.. when I drove by this neon green wall I HAD TO STOP!!  I thought the pink scarf would rock with this backdrop and I think it does, wouldn't you agree?

I love this scarf. Rita, of Adventures of Cinderita, brought this back for me from Beijing when she was over there as an event coordinator for the Olympics.  How cool is that?  Anyway, I don't wear it enough so when I put it on it made me think of you Rita baby.  AND did you all notice that I had a HAIR INTERVENTION??  I spontaneously got an appt with my hairdresser yesterday to clean it up a bit and she did a shag on it.  I like it, it feels way better.

Guess what ladies?  I will be reporting LIVE from Quebec City next week and I am so excited to take my camera and get some good pics so stay tuned.  Have a super awesome weekend and I will catch you on your blogs!!!  toodle doo  xoxo J

Daily Outfit: Endings become Beginnings

Do you know that I have a husband?  He is my secret older husband.  His name is Wayne Dyer.  He might not know that he is my secret husband, but I know it so that's all that matters :). I love him. He rocks if you ask me. When I went for my run this morning I was listening to "Change your thoughts, Change your life" and the part I really liked was the 16th verse and it talks all about every ending is a beginning. It was a good reminder of when something happens and you are attached to it looking a certain way, that really, it is just the opening for something new.  That's what fall reminds me of. Change, transformation. Something new.  SO, time to pull out the ol leather skirt and have the courage to wear it to work today.  Not something I would normally wear to work.  It doesn't look to bad does it?  We will see.  Will I get rolled eyes?  Will people not even look at me?  I am going for 1 compliment.  Lets see how I do!  3 people came out of their houses this morning to ask me what I was  doing. Like I was taking candid shots into their living rooms or something. PULLLEEEAASE!

I am so excited.  WHO is going to win the earrings?  Oh boy, I can hardly wait.  Can I enter??  lol I am too excited!!

Don't forget to enter if you haven't already or you don't know about it.  Find out more BETHANY JANE DESIGNS GIVEAWAY  (They are really cute earrings!!).  Go check it out now, NOW I say :)

Bethany Jane Designs is a small hand made jewelery company, based out of Victoria BC.  It all began in 2006 when my good friend Yarrow and I were working as servers at a remote resort on the West Coast and had a boring black uniforms so she started making earrings to spice up our look to be different every day!.  The company is currently based in Victoria BC and has been a journey migrating from Montreal to the West Coast.   Things really took off after a trip to Guatemala in fall of 2006 and arriving back to Canada filled with inspiration and beauty.

Bethany Jane is my given name and most people know me as Benny.  My designs are inspired by fashion, travel, people and the natural environment.  I have  collected the materials from various places across the country making each piece of jewelry truly one of a kind.  Much like my wardrobe which I collect from vintage shops, locally made designs, hand me downs and of course accessorized with my own creations!!  I like to add a pair of my fabulous earrings to take any outfit to the next level or change the look entirely: choosing funky turquoise, classy pearls, or free spirited feathers!

Jewelery is compelling to me as a way to express beauty, inspiration and passion. For me art is about creating something beautiful out of a space of unknowing … Art makes me excited about life, fashion and people!

Daily Outfit: Black Red White 106

First off: Happy Birthday Rita of Adventures of Cinderita!!!  Here's to an exceptional year of fabulous outfits!!  Worked from home this morning and am now heading out for some meetings.  Reporting live from 106 today... just some random 106 building- it has no significance, really, other than I thought the number would look cool and the backdrop worked to make my boots POP.  I look drunk in the last photo.  Like the wall is holding me up and I am about to fall over but I PROMISE YOU  I am not drunk, really, hiccup.  I mean it, hiccup (the rule is only after 12 noon isn't it?burp) LOL.  Seriously time for some hair help, or HAIR 911 or something.  I feel like I have a big mop on my head and it's becoming an out of control mop with a mind of it's own.  Liking the length but need to shape it abit.  Guess it's time to visit my super lovely hairdresser.

I will catch up with you lovely ladies tonight.  Am behind on my blog reading since I actually went out last night to a "night before Rita's birthday" dinner party.  I wore the same outfit I had on during the day yesterday and more comments on the funky purple  tights!! Was fun.  Until tonight.  Over n out from 106.

Daily Outfit: Purple Rain

I never meant to cause you any sorrow.  I never meant to cause you any pain.  I only wanted one time to see you laughing.  I only wanted to see you laughing in the purple rain.  Okay. I am dating myself here. but I LOVED Prince back in highschool.  Strange hair, but good singer!  Today as you can probably guess, IT'S RAINING.  I have my trusty list of places where there are overhangs for photoshoots and this is what you get today!!  My self imposed photography homework this week is to only use the Apeture setting on the camera and voila! I have already learned some new things this morning.  I'm working from home this morning so am sitting here with my nice purple tights on and a warm cup of earl grey tea.  One thing you should know about me, is, while I LOVE the taste and smell of coffee, I don't drink it.  Too acidic.  Not good for your health.  Earl Grey is my drink of choice. Especially organic.

I had the BEST day yesterday.  I did a photoshoot for my girlfriend who I will be profiling on this blog very soon.  We got so many fun photos it was awesome.  And I LOVED being the photographer.  And I appreciate everyone's comments from my "Saturday FAT and not good photographer" rant... LOL I really had that going on in my head and thought I would share more of my real human side with you!!  You ladies rock!!

So, by the way, not to rub it in or anything, but this tunic/dress was only $6 at my favorite thrift store.. yabba dabba doooo!!  Have a happy Monday and for any of you who do NOT have rain today. SHAME ON YOU!!  MWAH xoxo j

Daily Outfit: Playing with the camera

I went out to play with my camera this morning and took some shots of myself (of course).  I realized when I was playing around that I was feeling really frustrated.  I am not very technical and I'm trying to learn the all the exposure, shutter speed, ISO, etc and what I found was that I was beating myself up for not being good at this already.  And that I just want to be good at it NOW.  Then I saw the pics of me and felt like I look FAT, and really bad outfit.. etc.  Do you know those negative self-talk conversations? The voice in you head going a mile a minute (no- I am not crazy either).  In case you asked yourself " What voice in your head".  THAT'S the exact voice I'm talking about!! That little negative voice that wants to kick you down whenever it can.  I call mine my evil twin.  I have a male friend who calls his "Little Hitler".   We have our Annual Team dinner tonight with everyone on our Triathlon Team (like our club) and I don't want to go.  I don't know what to wear.  Feel fat. No good at photography (as if THAT has any relevancy hah hah).. on and on.  So what will I do?  Thank the evil twin for sharing.  Have a long soak in the tub and pull out some amazing outfit and go anyway. End of Story.  Oh, yeah, and have fun!

So there you go, a little bit of Jodi Unplugged for a Saturday afternoon!!  Love ya, xoxo j

Daily Outfit: Ghostly

And another morning of gawkers and commenters.  Today, down by the water, before work. 7am DARK and this guy walks along with his dog. Stops. Watches me.  Then starts providing comments as though he is Tyra Banks or something. But uses a real deep MAN VOICE: "ohhh veeerrry nice", "looking good".  And yes of course I REALLY needed the model coaching from him and his ultra hyper Jack Russell that was coming over and trying to hump my leg.  Friday starts on a good note you can tell!! LOL.

I was playing around with my settings on the camera since it was so dark and somehow got this really wild ghostly picture, which I think is pretty cool actually.  Today is jeans day so that's what you get, and my top is a nice deep plum color.  I do work in an office where its pretty casual normally so on the days when I do dress up they look at me weird.  But they do anyway.  Ho Hum. I am used to it!!

Super Happy Friday to all of you awesome readers.  I am really enjoying this blogging journey for 3 reasons:  I am having WAY more fun with my clothes.  I am having fun learning photography.  I am loving getting to know all of you and am inspired by your ideas and your friendship!!!  Cheerios Dahlings!!

Co-ordinating Jewelry to Necklines (from insideoutstyleblog.com)

This has always been a challenge for me so I found this post simple and good.

Co-ordinating Jewelry to necklines
by Imogen Lamport, AICI CIP

If the face is the 'communication centre' it's really important to think about how to draw attention there. Finishing off getting dressed so that you look 'put together' and stylish is helped immensely by what happens above the bust as it is close to the face.

Using a piece of jewellery in this area or some sort of embellishment helps create a strong focal point up high, drawing the eye up to your gorgeous visage.

To ensure that elements of design work well together here are some easy to remember points.

1. If the neckline is embellished, then avoid adding another necklace, instead opt for some earrings that relate to the embellishment.

2. If the neckline is high choose a longer necklace, one that goes at least to your first balance point, or even double that length if want a longer necklace.

3. If it's a V (angular) neckline, look for necklaces with angularly shaped beads rather than curved, or a pendant that has an angular shape.

4. If it's a Curved (scoop) neckline, choose necklaces with curved detail rather than sharp angularity.

Daily Outfit: Office Safari

Little bit office. Little  bit safari.  Kindof like that cheesey song "I'm a little bit country, little bit rock n roll".  I liked this outfit until I downloaded the pics and saw it differently.  This is a shirt dress with a vest over top (like, duh) and the belt just flapped around all morning which was annoying.  I don't like how big the boots look with the tights and this outfit.  I of course, love the leopard scarf. The dress itself is cotton and gets all bagged out of shape after a bit of wear. Anyway.  I would get the camera set up and about to take a picture and someone would come along and gawk at me.  I moved to a different location and then someone would magically appear out of the bushes just around the time for me to jump in front of the camera.  It's also dark and foggy today.  Win some, lose some.  That's the point- to learn from what works and how to improve for the next outfit/photo shoot.

Ladies:  I am liking my hair longer, but now have to pull back and need some ideas.  Wearing it the way I am makes me feel like a kid.  Any suggestions (I have a long face so am supposedly not supposed to grow my hair much longer).

Toodle doo for now...

Daily Outfit: THE jacket

I got this jacket for $5 at a thrift store. It's leather, fits like a glove. Good price.  NOT my color.  I thought I could get it dyed chocolate brown but the guy I took it too just said "ah, it ain't worth it" . I thought I would wear it anyway and just wear it with scarves that are my color and detract from the color of the jacket.   Jewelry pic of today's fav accessories.  The earrings I have had for about 15 years and are from an ex-boyfriend who was a total idiot  but had good taste in jewelry! LOL.

Question for you ladies:  Should I get rid of the jacket? Is it a total puke color on me? Any ideas for how to DIY dye leather?

Daily Outfit: And that's when the fight broke out

And here I am in my turtle sweater (according to fiance) lol!  Yesterday was so cold I couldn't believe it really was time for long sleeve sweaters.  I am feeling spunky today with tights and boots and my favorite purse.  I ran for 1 hour this morning before work with no hands. WHAT?  Yes, I ran with my hands on my hips the whole time.  It's good running form practice.  People looked at me weird but who cares, they looked at my weird when I was doing my own photo shoot today too (can't you tell I am ready for a fight in the last photo-- come on- just TRY me :).  Whatever, I say... WhatEVERLife is gooooooddd.

Daily Outfit: Pinecones and Old Ladies

This was my Grammy's dress and I love it. But I feel like an old lady. I tried some of Colette's layering advice and not too bad... I don't feel too bulked up here with the sweater and belt over top.  If I look like a linebacker you would tell me wouldn't you?   I also love pinecones- they remind me of the cedar forests where I grew up.  My brothers and I would always have pinecone wars.  Yes, I threw cones at them and yes I did try to hit my sweet little brothers often enough :)  It was dark out today so these pics show you some good ol West Coast October weather.. I hope you don't see my goosebumps though.  I miss the Hawaii sun already!

Daily Outfit: Saying Aloha backwards

We spent our final evening on the beach at a place called A-Bay out at Waikoloa.  We had a bottle of wine and sushi on the beach watching the sunset.  I did a repeat of this dress from the other day, over my bathing suit:).  I played around with some photos using the tripod.  The sunset (as they all are, was spectacular).
This is a shot of the Village with the moonlight.
And this is my MOST FAVORITE of all.  This is the moonlight and the white spots are stars.  The wind was picking up so you see the movement of the palm trees.  This was a high ISO and very slow shutter speed.
So then the next morning we got packed early and had about 1.5 hours to spare before heading to the airport so we went to a beach near the airport for our last swim and it was appropriate that I wore the same dress as Day 1 of the trip.  Not the greatest pic of me, but the ocean was fantastic!!
All in all, I was happy with what I had packed.  I have created a list that can be used as the basis for the next trip.

Packing
What I Took
1 black dress, 1 halter dress, 1 pink wrap dress
1 pair shorts
3 halter tops
1 wrap skirt
1 white sleeveless t-shirt
2 long sleeve blouses (wear on flight over and back)
1 pair long pants that roll into capri's (wore on flight over and back)
1 pair running shorts and 1 running top, running shoes
1 pair flip flops
1 pair sandals with slight heel

What I would do differently for next time
Leave the sandals with heel at home (never wore them), bring dressier flat sandals instead
Take a mini-skirt or skort
Get a new bathing suit that is more flattering (notice I didn't post any bikini shots!!!)
Find some kind of hat that looks good rather than having to always wear a visor and look like a jock!

Back to work on Monday so stay tuned for fall wear!!  xoxx J

Daily Outfit: Parker Ranch

We started out driving out to this old red dirt ranch road so we could go for a run and instead ended up going 4X4 about 8 miles up hills into an area that was like outer space.  Running shorts and t-shirt over my running bra.  That was the outfit today.  I promise to make it up to you when I get back.. will really have to stretch myself and pull off some brilliant outfit ideas!!

Daily Outfit: Ocean, Lava Tubes and Bamboo

I laughed my head off when I saw that movie 'Planes, Trains and Automobiles' back in the late 80's.  Today was a bit like that only it was Ocean, Lava Tubes and Bamboo.  We went snorkeling at this magical spot down by the City of Refuge, then went on a coffee plantation tour where they had this HUGE lava tube we walked through (I am showing my scary face-- RAWR, Comin to git you!!), then went to an   ethnobotanical garden where they had the biggest bamboo I have seen in my life.. this stuff was unreal! Like Bamboo on steroids!!  Same halter top as the other day, and old $5 skirt from Walmart from about 4 years ago (oh so dated)- but is a wraparound and very convenient ( I don't really like this skirt but is the kind I don't care if it gets wrecked).  I have not worn makeup for this whole trip and you all have seen me with salt-crusted hair in almost all these pics so we are really getting to know each other well on this trip!!  Hope you won't de-follow me :)

3 more sleeps then back to orange leaves and rain and scarves, boots and dark colors- I will cherish these next few days before we say bye bye for another year.

Daily Outfit: Rainforest excursion in the rain

So, the rain part wasn't planned, hence wearing nothing but a Lululemon workout top and some running shorts.  A spontaneous hike up the backside of Waipi'o Valley was the highlight today with a wash n wear theme for the outfit today :).  A jock looking visor that shades my face is certainly no fashion statement, but it keeps the frizzy hair out of my face!  This was a great little hike, only about 4 miles and through bamboo forest and then through about 2 other different ecosystems, saw wild turkeys and got totally soaked by the rain. The contest today is: See if you can spot Jodi in picture #2.  The first person who does wins a bag of chocolate covered macadamia nuts!!

Hah hah.. I am only joking about the nuts, do you actually think I could travel back with a bag of chocolate mac nuts and not eat them myself???   Anyway, I AM in pic #2 and I AM waving at you!!
Cheerio for now! j

Daily Outfit: What to wear Ziplining

Dresses were NOT an option today.  We had some sky-high business to take care of-- Ziplining through Hawaiian Rainforest.  So, instructions were, no short-shorts, no tank tops or bikini tops (yikes!! who would want the sisters at risk like that anyway?) and closed toe shoes.  All I had were some pants that can be rolled up ala capri-style and a short sleeve white t-shirt.  Pigtails and helmet and I was ready to go!! As you can see, I picked the helmet that nicknamed me Ms. Z  so you can now officially call me that!!  Of course I am not quite as exotic as Miss J of America's Next Top Model, but I try in my Canadian sporty-kinda style :).
