Time to Fly (again:)

Happy Saturday! No I haven't gone MIA... just relaxing abit after my race season AND I am having trouble with outfits these days.  I have slimmed down over this past year due to training and a few tweaks to the way I eat.  I have gained more lean muscle and as you likely know, that helps to burn fat.  Over the months I have been bagging up clothes that don't fit and either taking them to the consignment store or putting them on the curb for Big Brothers Big Sisters to pick up.  I didn't really notice it little by little but now that fall is coming I hardly have any clothes left in my closet. Everything is too big or its just plain ol time to update.

It's time to fly again!!  I am exploring the latest fashions and wondering what  I could do to shake up my style.. wondering what kind of styles would look good on me that I haven't ever tried before.  I like the boho look as long as its got some shape and structure since I can't do baggy.  I also really love the 50's ish fitted styles with high waistlines.  Looks to me like furs, leathers, matching tops and bottoms, appliques and defined waistlines are in this season.

Off to Montreal for 1 week for work so hopefully I will find some funky stuff there. Stay tuned. Next report will be from french part of Canada :)  Fingers crossed I don't come back looking like a Sasquatch in some big furry coat.. LOL

And the next challenge

Hello fashionistas! September is one of my favorite months- still sunny and warm and colors begin to turn.  Boot season is just around the corner!  My triathlon race season is officially over. I had a really tough final race, however when you are out there battling the elements and you always have a Plan B in your backpocket- while you can train for months and be physically and mentally ready, you never know what you will be faced with on race day.  I have now been competing for 7 years- only seriously racing for about 3.  This year I placed 4th in a half ironman distance and 3rd in an Olympic distance race.  My hope for this recent long distance race was to qualify for the world championships in Hawaii but due to having to resort to PLAN B during the race I was really thrilled to even finish.  Lots to learn and always grateful to be safe out there on the swim, bike and run- and of course, celebrate all our accomplishments with my teammates.

We head to Hawaii in October for fiance to compete in Ironman in Kona so I'll be training with him to keep him company for the next 6 weeks along with yoga, weights and running a few half marathons. (Got to get bikini ready right??)

As for the outfit.. this is one of my favorite skirts and just by accident paired it with this top and kinda like the color combo.  As always- a wide belt helps to narrow the waist!

Hope all is well with each of you!!!  Happy Tuesday. xox J

Casual Sunday

And its Sunday already! I am busy packing for heading off to my Ironman race. Can't believe its almost here. I've been training since November for this race.  Leading up to it I have had both some real discouraging races (pulled out of my first 1/2 marathon due to achilles injury, and didn't finish a 1/2 ironman race because of some other technical difficulties) and some really successful races (placed 4th in one of the toughest half ironmans around and then placed 3rd in a very competitive Olympic distance race).  I am ready and eager to get moving on this big race and hoping to place well in my age category so I have a chance at the World Championships.  Will keep you posted on that!!

Casual outfit to run errands today. My FAVORITE vintage bag from Thailand- I picked it up in Bangkok for about $4.00. I LOVE it.  And a goofing around shot showing off my baby muskles :)  Someone was walking by when I took this shot and they were certainly gawking. I felt embarrased- like they must think I am pretty egotistical standing there taking photos of myself flexing my muscles.... LOL whatever, as long as they didn't already know me from around town!!

Packing and cleaning for the rest of the day. Will hopefully see you all tomorrow!! Have a super rest of the day! J

Training Adventure

Happy Friday ( I posted this Friday and for some dumb reason it was in my drafts folder by accident)!! I thought I would give you a snapshot of some of what went on during our hardcore training camp a couple of weeks ago.. Drove up into the interior of BC where its fruit growing and wine country.Very nice, very HOT!! We pigged out on cherries (only to be sorry the next day if you know what I mean :)! Day One we were supposed to do a long ride and I ended up breaking a spoke and having to take it into the local bike shop to get replaced. ALWAYS HAVE A PLAN B. It was about 30-36 degrees most days which is really hot for us here in BC. So hot in fact that we stopped after our ride and bought a big bottle of ice cold coke zero. Now, you would normally NEVER see me drinking something like this but boy I felt like a kid in a candy shop.. YUM just the pick-me-up I needed!!

As you can see, Day Five was a swim and run. Leaving from the giant peach and all. Then sushi dinner before our BIG ride of 180km plus 11 km of extreme hill= 191 of calorie burning machines!! Sushi is our tradition before any long ride and the night before a race. Last photo of ONE of the SEVEN rollers we rode. Long, up and down, windy, hot, lots of squashed gophers on the roadside to dodge.. oh and I almost hit a bear also- that is a whole other story.

All in all we put in over 500 km, ran over 12 hours of mileage and swam about 6 km in 6.5 days. We felt very strong when we came back- so strong in fact, I placed 3rd in a triathlon I did only 2 days back from camp. Gotta love it!!

Thanks a brief glimpse into my world and now you can probably see why I haven't had alot of time for outfit photos (nice fancy outfits anyway :)

HAVE A SUPER WEEKEND!! xoxo J

Wedding Attire

Hello!! It's been awhile. I was away for a 10 day training camp: rode over 500 km, ran more than 11 hours total, swam about 5km and had good rest and ate really healthy. Finished off the camp with a triathlon and placing in the top 3!! Not bad. I am feeling really strong and ready for my big race at the end of August!

Then, rushed home to get to a wedding of a dear friend (and husband in first photo) who had a beautiful garden wedding in a fantastic Gary Oak forest surrounded by a big beautiful grassy field.  She had such an awesome dress on- it was light yellow silk and she had it custom made, she was wearing her grandmothers pearls and all around she looked amazing!! Of course all us girls were crying during the ceremony.

I didn't get the greatest photos- this was very challenging to capture because there was such a mix of shade and sun- all my photos turned out really dark.  Oh, and guess what? I got my silk dress for $7.00 at my favorite thrift store! Can't believe it - BUT in typical Jodi fashion I slopped chip dip on it within the first hour of getting there... oh boy.. can dress me up but not take me too far!!! LOL

Anyway, all is well, life is awesome, work is busy and training is exceptional!!  Hope you are all doing awesome too!! xoxo J

Zebra Dress Curly Hair

I always love getting my hair cut. However, now that my hair is growing long I don't get it cut as much and the  style doesn't change.  A wee bang trim today and freshen up a few highlights and then Julia put stuff in my hair to make it curly and then did this fun updo.  So easy to do! There are hairpins underneath and the hair on top is spilling over.  Anyway- I will try this myself sometime.   So busy at work I didn't even get a chance to eat lunch. My stomach is growling so see ya later... I am going to eat dinner now!! Have a super evening.  xox J

Jodi Unplugged: After the big weekend

Happy Sunday evening!  Here's a peek at Jodi Unplugged on a Sunday after dinner.  I have NO makeup on and my hair is in crazy braids with it all frizzy after my early workout and then the day in the garden.  Oh, and look- I am even wearing my favorite old stretched out t-shirt :).

Why do I look like this  you might ask?
This was a big volume weekend for our training.  I will give you a snapshot of what my weekend looked like:

Saturday: meet team 8am. Ride HILLY 180km bike ride, come home and run 30 minutes immediately after.  Make recovery smoothie.  Shower.  20 minute recovery nap.  Clean house. Make dinner. Check email.  Prepare stuff for Sunday workout.

Sunday: meet team 9am.  Run 1.5 hour hard/fast run, followed by 30 minute swim.  Come home, eat recovery snack. Shower.  Weed garden.  Pack for upcoming trip.  Clean house.  Make dinner, make quiche for lunch for the upcoming week.  Prepare swim stuff for 6am swim on Monday.

We are nearing the BIG RACE (end of August).  I can honestly say, I LOVE this part of the training.  I am feeling SO strong and fit with this being the beginning of our peak level of fitness.  I must admit I have been lacking in the creative outfit department for the last while but I will try to get a few more fun outfits on and photographed for your viewing pleasure :)

I hope you all had a great weekend doing something that made your heart sing :)  MWAH and talk to ya this week. xoxo J

Jeans and Strawberries

Hump Day. Interesting start to the middle of the week. I had the cutest white skirt and blue and white top on with a red belt today. Very nautical looking and cute if you ask me :).  Get to work. Was there about 20 minutes and had a wardrobe malfunction big enough to warrant having to come home and get changed. EGADS!! So, since I don't have meetings outside of the office I threw on some jeans, my favorite pair by David Bitton.  Those jeans fit me best out of any I have ever found.  Anyway, then I noticed that a bunch of the strawberries from our garden needed picking so I got busy.  I then made an awesome salad with organic greens, strawberries and pecans along with a left over piece of sockeye salmon to take back for  my lunch. Talk about YUM.

What did you have for lunch today?

Preppy

Casual day at the office today. Since I am only holed up planning and not having to meet with anyone I wore some shorts. I can never find full pants that fit me well so usually live in skirts and dressy shorts if I can find them.  I am also not a big fan of white on me but.. the whole reason I wore this was because I found this silk scarf for $0.50 and wanted to wear it at least once.  Its a pain in the a$$ though if I tell the truth. The length is strange and I am feeling like I am wearing a man's tie today!!  Anyway, that's the whole point right? To experiment.  I think next time I would use this scarf as a belt instead, or pair it with a plain black dress.  If it suited me to do so, I would wear it as a wrap in my hair- BUT you won't see that on this blog. Not on me.

Hope you are having a super day. I swam this morning, and do my run drills tonight.  less than 2 months til Ironman so we are working hard!!  How bout you? What kind of exercise did you get today??
